Product Overview
OnePlus 8 Pro is a flagship smartphone powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset. It features a punch-hole QHD+ OLED display with a quad-camera setup that matches the best from Samsung.
Compared to the OnePlus 8, the OnePlus 8 Pro features a different camera setup, including the new Sony IMX689 main sensor and a 5MP color filter lens. Like its predecessor, it also uses a QHD+ OLED display, though the refresh rate is now bumped to 120Hz.
Like the OnePlus 8, the 8 Pro also comes with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity. It uses the X55 Dual Mode 5G modem that seamlessly switches between LTE and 5G networks to save battery without sacrificing performance.

androidauthority[1]
Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)The OnePlus 8 Pro's zoom camera crops in from 12MP to 8MP for “lossless” zoom, which captures less detailed shots than that of rival camera phones. With the OnePlus 9 Pro, it ditched the gimmick lenses and delivered a true telephoto experience while retaining and even upgrading the exemplary main and ultra-wide lenses. The only substantial thing that keeps the 8 Pro appealing is that it costs less than the 9 Pro.
Pros
- Gorgeous 120Hz display
- Excellent battery life
- Fast processor
Cons
- No software updates
- No wireless charging
cnet[2]
Reviewer score 93% (normalized by Neofiliac)The OnePlus 8 Pro's main 48-megapixel camera and wide-angle shooter take sharp and vibrant shots. At times the contrast and colors, like the greens in some of these outdoor photos, can be punched up a bit too much. The camera can also shoot 4K video and has optical image stabilization.
Pros
- Gorgeous display
- Excellent battery life
- Fast charging
Cons
- Camera could be better
- No wireless charging
digitaltrends[3]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)The OnePlus 8 Pro costs $1,000 for the 12GB/256GB version in our review, or $900 for the 8GB/128GB model. It has a Snapdragon 865 chipset and the X55 5G modem, plus a massive 12GB of RAM. It's not perfect, though. The lack of an always-on display is a disappointment, though you can tap the screen to see information.
Pros
- Incredible screen
- Excellent software experience
- Excellent battery life
- IP68 rating
Cons
- No always-on display
- No wireless charging
nextpit[4]
Reviewer score 93% (normalized by Neofiliac)The 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED panel in a 19.8:9 format has a resolution of 3,168 x 1,440 pixels (QHD+). This results in a pixel density of 513 ppi. On the back, there is a change in design due to the new camera module. The main camera is still in the middle, but the flash, laser autofocus, and the 3x telephoto camera have moved to the left.
Pros
- Fast performance
- Good battery life
- Good cameras
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No IP68 certification
notebookcheck[5]
Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Snapdragon 865 is Qualcomm's latest and fastest high-end SoC. It offers eight cores split across three clusters: a super-fast prime core, three fast performance cores and four energy-saving processor cores for less complicated work. The graphics unit also offers 10-20% more performance than its predecessor, making it a powerful GPU indeed. The device gets quite warm under sustained loads, possibly so much so that the device will feel uncomfortable to the touch in summer.
Pros
- Bright AMOLED display
- Fast SoC
- Good battery life
Cons
- High temperatures under sustained load
- No IP certification
pcmag[6]
Reviewer score 90% (normalized by Neofiliac)The unlocked OnePlus 8 Pro is a fast, smooth phone with terrific software and a smart selection of cameras. Photos taken with the 8 Pro are sharper, with better dynamic range and background detail than on the OnePlus 8. Video recording is 4K, not 8K, up to 60fps 4K or 240fps 1080p slow-mo.
Pros
- Fast, smooth performance
- Excellent cameras
- Good battery life
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No 5G support
pcworld[7]
Reviewer score 66% (normalized by Neofiliac)The OnePlus 8 Pro takes great pictures, and anyone who uses one to snap a landscape or a portrait in good-enough lighting will be happy with the results. However, it still feels like a generation or two behind the smartphone leaders. At $1,000, the 8 Pro should stand up to those in other like-priced handsets.
Pros
- Top-notch cameras
- Excellent battery life
- Solid performance
Cons
- Poor low-light camera
- No wireless charging
phonearena[8]
Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Pro is the biggest, meanest, and best smartphone OnePlus has put out thus far. It features a fantastic set of cameras, a big, gorgeous, 120 Hz AMOLED screen, the fastest possible hardware on an Android phone, and an impressive battery. The 8 Pro's camera is definitely an improvement over its cheaper sibling, but it also has a bunch of quirks that you may or may not like.
Pros
- Gorgeous 120 Hz AMOLED display
- Great battery life
- Great cameras
Cons
- Camera module sticks out more
- A bit on the thick side
techadvisor[9]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)The 8 Pro has 30W wired charging but backs it up with 30W wireless charging as well. Despite both methods hitting 30W the wired tech is more efficient and thus a bit faster still. As for actual battery performance, it's pretty solid but not awe-inspiring. The 8 Pro ships with Android 10 and OxygenOS 10.5, which doesn't change much. Dark mode gets a few tweaks but still isn't schedulable, or easy to turn on and off without diving deep into settings menus.
Pros
- Fantastic performance
- Solid battery life
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No IP68 rating
techradar[10]
Reviewer score 91% (normalized by Neofiliac)There's plenty of power under the hood of the OnePlus 8 Pro, with the phone featuring Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chipset. The 8 Pro (with 12GB of RAM) recorded an average multi-core benchmark score of 3305 on Geekbench 5.1. This means the 8 Pro is a supremely powerful device, and one which should be suitably future-proofed in terms of power, as well as connectivity thanks to its 5G capabilities.
Pros
- Top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chipset
- Powerful performance
Cons
- No 5G
- No expandable storage
theverge[11]
Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)The OnePlus 8 Pro has a respectable — but not perfect — camera. It's using the same sensor as last year's 7T, which means the ultrawide is notably better than the competition. In bright lighting conditions, I was consistently impressed with both the level of detail and color accuracy. When the lights are low, this camera trips over itself.
Pros
- Excellent performance
- Great battery life
- Great camera
Cons
- Average low-light camera
- No wireless charging

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)There is a zoom lens too, in the form of an 8-megapixel camera with OIS. There’s no form of periscope zooming though, a feature you’ll find on recent flagships like the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Oppo Find X2 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro. The 8 Pro has a better, newer sensor than the OnePlus 8 and the difference does show. 4K video shot on the Pro is a lot sharper and smoother, while low-light snaps retain more detail and don’t rely so much on brightness. Pictures do lack the strong dynamic range of the recent Galaxy S 20 phones and the Pixel 4, meaning shots with a lot of variation in colour aren't as striking.
Pros
- Great value for money
- Great camera quality
- Great battery life
Cons
- Odd 5-megapixel camera
- No wireless charging
- No IP rating
whathifi[13]
Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)WarpCharge 30T Wireless can charge the 8 Pro from empty to half-full in 30 minutes. The phone also works with Qi charging at 10W. The 8 Pro puts up a good fight to the Samsung Galaxy S20 in respects to screen and camera performance. It delivers a bold, clear and upfront listen that's reasonably detailed but much cruder than what's on offer from Samsung.
Pros
- Class-leading screen
- Impressive performance
- Excellent battery life
Cons
- No Dolby Vision
- No wireless charging
