Product Overview

Intel Core i5-10400 is a mainstream option in Intel's 10th-gen Core, Comet Lake desktop PC microprocessor family. There is also a lower-powered variant, i5-10400T, that trades some performance for efficiency.
The Core i5-10400 comes with 6 cores and 12 threads and a single-core maximum frequency of 4.3GHz. It sports the same Intel UHD Graphics 630 integrated GPU found in other Comet Lake processors, though its boost clock is capped at 1.1GHz.
The low-power Core i5-10400T shares with the base chip the same core and thread count as well as technical features. It is clocked, however, roughly 20% lower. As a tradeoff, it has a TDP of 35W, as do other Comet Lake T-series processors. It can also run at a 25W, TDP-down mode, though the clock speed is further capped.
Alongside the i5-10400, Intel also markets the Core i5-10400F. The "F" designation means the i5-10400F does not come with the integrated graphics. Intel debuted this concept in 2019 in order to salvage chips with defective GPUs that are otherwise perfect. As a result, the i5-10400F shares with the i5-10400 all specifications except for the difference in integrated graphics. For desktop users with discrete graphics installed, the F-series chip may be an interesting option, thanks to its lower MSRP.
As a third refinement based on the 14nm Skylake process, the Comet Lake desktop processors offer an increase in core count, clock speed, and cache capacity over its predecessor. All Comet Lake Core processors feature hyperthreading, allowing two threads to run on every core.

The Intel Core i5-10400 slots right into its expected spot in the mainstream CPU hierarchy. AMD's Vega 8 and Vega 11 IGPs have proven themselves to be solid options for anyone looking to work and play all off of the same chip on a very tight budget. If you want a six-core 10th Generation Intel processor with slightly more productivity potential and some overclockability, the Core i 5-10600K is your chip.
