Product Overview

The 2021 LG gram 17 (17Z90P) further refines the successful formula of its predecessors: in a 17-inch 16:10 magnesium alloy chassis smaller than the 2020 model, the 17Z90P brings 11th-gen Intel Core Tiger Lake processor and two Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4.0 ports.
One other major improvement is the display: the IPS panel now covers 99% of DCI-P3 color space, a significant bump over the previous gram 17. Meanwhile, Iris Xe graphics and LPDDR4X memory are included. LG has also upgraded the laptop's speakers, with more powerful units powering the 2021 gram 17.
Alongside the gram 17, LG also refreshed the entire LG gram lineup at CES 2021. Other models include the 16-inch gram 16 and gram 16 2-in-1 as well as 14-inch gram 14 and gram 14 2-in-1.

External Reviews

digitaltrends[1]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The LG Gram 17 is a long-lasting laptop despite its large, high-resolution display. It will get you through a full workday and well into the evening, and you'll probably have a few hours left over the next morning. The Dell XPS 17 offers the same 16:10 aspect ratio display that's also higher quality.
Pros
  • Large, high-resolution display
  • Excellent battery life
  • Comfortable keyboard
Cons
  • Keyboard layout is flimsy
  • Touchpad could be larger

laptopmag[2]

Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
The LG Gram 17 was the slowest of the bunch on the Handbrake video editing test. With integrated Iris Xe graphics, demanding graphical tasks were less stellar. The Gram 17 lasted me a full nine hours of work, and when I forgot to charge it overnight, it still got through most of the next day. LG packed the Update Center to update device drivers and firmware.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Excellent performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Dim display
  • No Thunderbolt 3 port

notebookcheck[3]

Reviewer score 60% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
The Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 80EUs integrated into the SoC supports DirectX 12 and is sufficient to display at least some games smoothly. The speakers of the LG Gram 17 are surprisingly good and produce a quite acceptable sound spectrum. The laptop shows a lot of endurance when surfing the Internet or while running office applications. The 80-Wh battery ensures a battery life that will last at least one day.
Pros
  • Matte IPS display
  • Good battery life
  • Fast dual-channel working memory
  • Good performance
Cons
  • High heat development under longer loads

pcmag[4]

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Gram 17 is rare among laptops with 17-inch screens in that it's not a gaming rig or workstation. While an average of 44 frames per second in the Superposition 720p benchmark is respectable for light-duty gaming, hardcore gamers should look elsewhere. Battery life is an obvious high point for the Gram 17, which lasted almost 19 and a half hours in our video rundown.
Pros
  • Sleek, light design
  • Gorgeous screen
  • Excellent battery life
  • Comfortable keyboard
Cons
  • Slightly uncomfortable touchpad

pcworld[5]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcworld have found:
The LG Gram 17 has a good complement of ports that should be an asset in any enterprise or educational setting. The addition of the Intel Core i7 11th-gen chipset is the 2021 LG Gram’s biggest upgrade and a worthy one. The processor made light work of tasks like browsing and Microsoft Office applications.
Pros
  • Lightweight and portable
  • Excellent battery life
  • Solid performance
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 4 ports

t3[6]

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from t3 have found:
LG Gram 17 (17z90p) is one of a number of devices at this price point that offer high build quality, a beautiful screen and speedy performance. LG makes the bold claim that the 80 Wh lithium-ion battery inside the LG Gram 17 can last up to 19.5 hours from a single charge. This really is an astonishingly big display for something this feather-like. But while it's fine for casual gaming, we wouldn't recommend it as a gaming laptop per se.
Pros
  • Gorgeous display
  • Great battery life
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 4

techadvisor[7]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techadvisor have found:
The LG gram 17 is an excellent workhorse for a range of office tasks. You will be able to use it for a bit of gaming if you're not playing anything overly demanding. The battery is still 80Wh but the upgrade to more efficient 11th-gen Intel chips provides a decent boost in battery. The only real issues I had last year were the wobbly trackpad and weedy speakers.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Excellent performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Wobbly trackpad
  • Lackluster speakers

techradar[8]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The LG Gram 17 (2021) features two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports used to power the laptop and charge its battery. The WQXGA LCD screen is big for a reason, and from a productivity standpoint it's hard to beat. The laptop proved its worth in performing tasks quickly, even under the stress of multiple tabs and programs open at the same time.
Pros
  • Gorgeous display
  • Excellent battery life
  • Excellent keyboard
Cons
  • Display is prone to glare
  • No dedicated left and right-click buttons

theverge[9]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from theverge have found:
The Gram has a tough magnesium alloy-clad body, but it looks and feels plasticky. LG was one of the first Windows laptop makers to move to a 16:10 aspect ratio. It gives you a little more vertical real estate to work with on the screen compared to 16:9 displays.
Pros
  • Sleek, lightweight design
  • Great battery life
  • Solid performance
Cons
  • Lacks a matte display
  • Limited bloatware

trustedreviews[10]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The LG Gram 17 has a 2560 x 1600 resolution that offers sharper detail. Its 16:10 aspect ratio is more square than older laptops, too, and is ideal for viewing websites and social media. The touchpad is super-responsive, while also featuring satisfying ‘clicky’ feedback when you push down to right- or left-click. Storage space is plentiful, with both 512GB and 1TB models available.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Super-glossy screen
Cons
  • Not as powerful as similar-sized laptops
