Product Overview

Yamaha YAS-209 is a mid-range soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. Sharing much of the same features with the MusicCast BAR 400 (YAS-408), the YAS-209 only differs in dropping MusicCast Surround support.
At the same time, the YAS-209 improves upon the YAS-109 unveiled at the same time by offering a 6.5-inch wireless subwoofer. Like the YAS-109, it supports a rich set of digital audio processing functionalities, including DTS Virtual:X virtual 3D surround sound. With Alexa built-in, the YAS-209 also enables voice control.

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
The Yamaha YAS-209 is a soundbar and wireless subwoofer combo incorporating two microphones for use with Amazon Alexa. The main soundbar is approximately 37 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall, and I found it fit under a number of TVs without blocking the IR port. Connections include HDMI in and HDMI (ARC) out, optical digital and Bluetooth.
Pros
  • Excellent sound quality with music, TV and movies
  • Alexa and Google Assistant support
Cons
  • No AirPlay 2 or built-in Chromecast

digitaltrends[2]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The YAS-209 brings to bear a smooth and relatively well-defined midrange, solid clarity up high, and plenty of thump from that squared-up subwoofer. The 209 serves up sneaky-good detail in your favorite films and TV shows, without punching you in the ears with sharpness or sibilance. It's not going to be a hi-fi musical experience, but at $350 it doesn't have to be — especially with so many features.
Pros
  • Sleek, well-defined midrange
  • Alexa voice control
  • Excellent multiroom performance
Cons
  • No Dolby Vision support
  • No HDMI ARC

techradar[3]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Yamaha YAS-209 is a competitively priced soundbar that covers all the bases. The subwoofer is best positioned at the front of the room, either to the left or right of the soundbar. HDMI connections offer the best sound quality and the greatest convenience. Built-in far-field microphones are suitably sensitive, allowing for seamless interaction with Alexa.
Pros
  • Powerful bass
  • DTS Virtual:X
  • Excellent multiroom system
Cons
  • No separate subwoofer

whathifi[4]

Reviewer score 67% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from whathifi have found:
The YAS-209 features a dedicated subwoofer, which has clear benefits in terms of bass depth and weight. Being wireless means less clutter and increased versatility, but there's a limit to how much it can be hidden away. On top of the soundbar, there is a row of touch-sensitive ‘buttons' that control volume, power, input-switching and the microphones. There's a single 4K and HDR-compatible HDMI input and ARC-enabled HDMI output.
Pros
  • Plenty of bass depth and weight
  • DTS Virtual:X processing
Cons
  • Weak dialogue
