Product Overview
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is a flagship reference card directly from Nvidia. Being a reference card, the Nvidia offers the performance of the new Ampere architecture without extra bells and whistles.
The Ampere architecture features 2nd-gen Ray Tracing Cores and 3rd-gen Tensor Cores and supports GDDR6X graphics memory. Like the reference RTX 3080, with which the RTX 3090 shares much of the features, this reference GeForce RTX 3090 boasts a new dual axial air-flow design that balances thermal performance with fan acoustics.
Nvidia also markets a reference RTX 3070 card.

notebookcheck[1]
Reviewer score 61% (normalized by Neofiliac)Nvidia's new flagship goes by the name of GeForce RTX 3090 and offers a whopping 24 GB of graphics memory for the first time. The cooling unit was developed from the ground up, and even three slots are occupied in the GTX 3090. The large 110-millimeter fans push a lot of air through the cooling fins that are distributed over the entire length of the card.
Pros
- 24 GB of graphics memory for the first time
- Very good cooling performance
- Very large cooling surface
Cons
- No graphics card support stand
pcworld[2]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)The GeForce RTX 3090 is built using the same next-gen “Ampere” GA102 graphics processor. It's stuffed with more of everything, including more CUDA cores, more SMs, more memory, a bigger memory bus. The GTX 3090's mammoth 24GB capacity is the real draw for professionals. More VRAM helps AI and analytics pros handle larger data sets.
Pros
- Gorgeous 24GB GDDR6X memory
- Super-fast 4K gaming performance
- Supports Nvidia OptiX and DLSS
Cons
- No SLI connector
techradar[3]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is the first graphics card that can provide playable frame rates at this high resolution. Where it really shines is in 3D Rendering and encoding, making it hugely compelling to creative professionals that need this level of performance without investing thousands of dollars in a Quadro or Tesla card. The experience here is definitely premium, even if the price-to-performance ratio won't make sense for most people.
Pros
- Impressive 3D Rendering and encoding
- Impressive 4K gaming performance
- Very affordable
Cons
- Not as fast as RTX 2080 Ti
tomshardware[4]
Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)RT 3090 comes equipped with 24GB of GDDR6X memory, this time clocked at 19.5 Gbps (compared to 19 Gbps on the 3080). This is accomplished by enabling the final two 32-bit memory controllers on GA102, and then running 24 chips in half-width 16-bit interface mode. The video ports on GeForce RTX 3090 FE are the same as on Turing.
Pros
- Higher throughput per SM than the RTX 3080
- Higher TFLOPS per SM
- Compact design
Cons
- No VirtualLink port
- L1 cache is larger than before
