Product Overview
Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM lens is a compact prime lens in Canon's RF-mount system. A budget-friendly option, the RF50mm F1.8 improves upon its EF counterpart with improved image quality as well as the addition of a customizable control ring shared among RF lenses.
To make these improvements, Canon has optimized lens placement and coatings that together deliver improved color balance, aberration control, and flare resistance.
The f/1.8 maximum aperture makes this "pancake" lens an interesting offering for low-light and portrait photography.

cameralabs[1]
Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Canon RF 50mm f1.8 STM is a low-cost standard lens for the EOS R mirrorless system. It provides an affordable entry into the World of prime lenses, low-light photography and shallow depth-of-field effects. It is by far the cheapest native lens in the RF system to date, making it tempting for anyone looking for a second lens to complement an existing kit-zoom. But while the overall style and rendering is similar, the newer RF version is noticeably sharper across more of the frame when wide-open.
Pros
- Excellent sharpness at f1.8
- Compact and compact
- Optical stabilisation
Cons
- Not as sharp as EF
