Product Overview
Apple's iPhone 12 comes in two sizes, including the more compact iPhone 12 mini. With an expansive edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR display, a new Ceramic Shield front cover, and the A14 Bionic chip, the iPhone 12 is a gorgeous device with improved durability and appearance.
Available in five colors, including the new (PRODUCT)RED, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are 5G- and WiFi 6-ready, offering the fastest wireless connectivity available on the market today. Their A14 Bionic chip is the first in the industry built on a 5nm process, making it faster and more efficient than ever. Its performance gains include up to a 50% edge over the fastest competition. The 16-core Neural Engine further offers 80% increase in performance, pushing 11 trillion operations per second.
The new design also comes with durability delivered by an aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure and combined with the Ceramic Shield front cover. As a result, the iPhone 12 and 12 mini come with an industry-leading IP68 rating.
The iPhone 12 mini is the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G smartphone in the world.

External Reviews
androidauthority[1]
Reviewer score 92% (normalized by Neofiliac)At $699, the iPhone 12 Mini is one of the most powerful smartphones you can get for the price. At $49 more, the OnePlus 8T offers 65W wired charging and a 120Hz display. Samsung's Galaxy S20 FE is a great option if you value these things in your device, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 packed into it.
Pros
- Incredible performance
- Super-fast charging
- Great battery life
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No telephoto camera
digitaltrends[2]
Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)The $700 iPhone 12 Mini plays in a category all its own: A truly small phone with an otherwise top-end experience. It's small enough to be manageable in anyone's hands and pockets, yet has full-blown iPhone 12 capabilities. But not everyone feels so strongly about size, and in that case should be wary of its weaker battery life.
Pros
- Small and compact design
- Excellent cameras
- Excellent battery life
Cons
- No water resistance
- No headphone jack
nextpit[3]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)Apple says it has made some improvements in image processing this year thanks to the new A14 Bionic processor. I was pleasantly surprised by the results I was able to capture with the iPhone 12 Mini. There's more detail in a wide range of lighting conditions this year, and Apple is continuing to build on the progress it made with its smartphone camera system last year.
Pros
- Super Retina OLED display
- Great battery life
- Super fast charging
Cons
- No telephoto lens
- Battery life could be better
notebookcheck[4]
Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iPhone 12 mini is powered by an Apple A14 Bionic with 4 GB of working memory. The viewing angle stability of the OLED display is on a very good level. There is only a minimal brightness loss at flat viewing angles, but no color inversions. Up to 7.5 watts can be pumped into the iPhone via a Qi charging surface.
Pros
- Small and compact
- Good battery life
- Good cameras
Cons
- Mediocre camera performance
- No telephoto lens
pcmag[5]
Reviewer score 93% (normalized by Neofiliac)If you're dissatisfied with your older phone's low-light performance, you'll see a distinct improvement with the 12 series. The 12 Pro absolutely brings additional capabilities; the 2x zoom is sharper and the Night Portrait mode is really dramatic. The iPhone 12's camera and Night mode are are absolutely good enough for most people.
Pros
- Superb low-light camera performance
- Dolby Vision HDR video recording at 60fps
- Great battery life
Cons
- No 4x4 MIMO
- No headphone jack
phonearena[6]
Reviewer score 95% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iPhone 12 strikes all the right notes — great display, great hardware, pretty colors, standard-setting camera, fast Face ID. In fact, it's kind of hard to recommend to spend the extra $200 for the iPhone 12 Pro. The regular 12 just covers everything you might need, minus the 2x telephoto lens.
Pros
- Beautiful OLED display
- Fast Face ID
- Great battery life
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No headphone jack
techadvisor[7]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iPhone 12 mini is the cheapest of the 2020 range starting at £699/US$729. You can order it direct from Apple as well as the likes of Amazon, Carphone Warehouse, Currys PC World, John Lewis, Argos and Very. It's pretty good value in the iPhone world, but that market has far better value when you consider the kind of specs you can get for half this price or even lower. There are very few specifically small phones, though, with namely the Google Pixel 4a springing to mind.
Pros
- Comes with a MagSafe charger
- Great battery life
Cons
- No 5G
theverge[8]
Reviewer score 94% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iPhone 12's photos seem to finally be stepping back from over-brightening shadows on faces. Compared to the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12 needs to drop into night mode less often. The new design is elegant and modern, but it's hard to tell you to buy a phone because it's pretty.
Pros
- Gorgeous OLED screen
- Good battery life
- Good cameras
Cons
- No 5G
- No headphone jack
tomsguide[9]
Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)With such a small frame, the iPhone 12 can't help but lose out to its brethren where battery life is concerned. The iPhone 12 mini doesn't ship with a charger, though using Apple's new 20-watt brick, we saw 60% in 30 minutes. All iPhone 12 models launch with iOS 14 — the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system.
Pros
- Sleek, lightweight design
- Excellent battery life
- 5G connectivity
Cons
- No wireless charging
- No headphone jack
whathifi[10]
Reviewer score 94% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iPhone 12 is the latest in a successful line of smartphones from Apple. The OLED screen delivers even more punch than the iPhone 11's LCD display. The iPhone 12 supports Dolby Atmos and Apple's own spatial audio processing, available to enjoy through the AirPods Pro and the recently announced Airpods Max.
Pros
- Gorgeous OLED display
- Excellent battery life
Cons
- No telephoto lens
- No headphone jack
wired[11]
Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iPhone 12 Mini's screen is big enough to read emails, scroll on Twitter, or look at maps when it's docked in your car. It can be used as an entertainment device, for how-to videos on YouTube or dance duets on TikTok. Its speakers aren't spectacular, as you might expect from a physically smaller device.
Pros
- Small, light, and airy
- Small, airy, and portable
- Long battery life
Cons
- No 5G support
- No wide-angle camera
