Product Overview
ASUS ROG Strix SCAR / Hero III G531 is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop powered by 9th-gen Intel Core Coffee Lake processors. It features the world's fastest 240Hz FHD IPS display with 100% sRGB coverage and 3ms response time.
The G531 comes with "Keystone" compatibility: Keystones are NFC-enabled keys that fit neatly into the chassis of the Strix SCAR III. When docked, the personalization profiles stored in them are instantly applied. Access to secure Shadow Drive also becomes available.
The SCAR III and Hero III versions of the G531 are essentially the same laptop with some different design elements to cater to FPS and MOBA gamers respectively.
Alongside the ROG Strix SCAR III G531, ASUS also introduced the 17.3-inch G731 that shares much of the same features.

Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Strix Scar III is quite impressive, offering strong performance, a long battery life, a clicky keyboard and decent speakers. But keep in mind that this machine lacks a webcam and the chassis is a bit thick. The Asus ROG Strix III is one of the best gaming laptops you can buy right now.
Pros
- Strong gaming performance
- Strong keyboard and touchpad

Cons
- Mediocre speakers
- No webcam
notebookcheck[2]
Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)Mark benchmark results in isolation, it is well beaten by many of our RTX 2070 powered comparison devices. The G531GW has two fans that work with several heatpipes to dissipate heat generated by the CPU and GPU. Surface temperatures peaked at 52 °C while playing "The Witcher 3", although most of the device remained at between 41 °C and 50 °C. The speakers are a worthy replacement for external speakers.
Pros
- Matte IPS display
- Good battery life
- Good speakers
Cons
- High CPU and GPU performance
- No Thunderbolt 3
