Product Overview

The 5th-generation Kia Optima (K5) incorporates the powerful and bold design language of Kia Stinger. Built on the company's N3 platform, the K5 is longer, wider, and lower than ever.
In the US, the K5 features all-turbocharged inline-4 engine lineup with 8-speed automatic transmissions, including an 8-speed DCT for the highest-end 2.5 T-GDi model. AWD is available with the smaller 1.6 T-GDi engine.
The center piece of K5's exterior design is Kia's modernized "tiger face". Inside, a newly designed infotainment display seamlessly stretches into the instrument panel.

Despite its questionable name, the 2021 Kia K5 GT is one of the most pleasant sedans you can buy today. The upgraded system on the 10.3-inch screen is not only dead simple to use, it's easy on the eyes. Features like forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning are standard.

Pros
  • Gorgeous infotainment system

Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The K5's list of standard safety features is impressive, but there are a few quirks. Kia's auto-light technologies are a touch too sensitive for my tastes. You can get the K5 with either an 8-inch or a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Pros
  • Excellent all-wheel drive
  • Comfortable ride
  • Good fuel economy
Cons
  • Lack of standard safety tech
