Product Overview

The redesigned Dell XPS 15 (9500) now features, like the relaunched XPS 17, 16:10 aspect ratio in a 4-sided InfinityEdge display as well as up-firing speakers.
Machined from two pieces of aluminium, the XPS 15 is lightweight yet strong and durable. The new hinge design works in concert with the 4-sided InfinityEdge display. With up to UHD+ (3840x2400) resolution, the display on the XPS 15 is equipped with Eyesafe technology that reduces blue light emission. It is topped by the smallest HD webcam discretely hidden in the bezel.
Along with XPS 17, the XPS 15 is the first laptop to feature Waves Nx 3D audio.

Reviewers from cnet have found:
The Dell XPS 15 9500 has roughly the same footprint as the Razer Blade 15, but it's thinner. The bigger touchpad is great, but I don't like that the power button/fingerprint reader in the upper right corner is intentionally left a mystery. Dell grew the touchpad and moved the speakers to either side of the keyboard.
Pros
  • Slim, light design
  • Long battery life
  • Great webcam
Cons
  • Slightly sloping screen bezels
  • No SD card slot

digitaltrends[2]

Reviewer score 92% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The XPS 15 starts at $1,300 for the base model, which only gets you a quad-core processor, integrated graphics, and 8GB of RAM. The upgrade from the Nvidia GTX 1650 to the 1650 Ti, though, does provide a hearty bump in terms of game performance. The base model is a good fit for users who want a top-tier laptop for everyday use.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 15-inch display
  • Powerful graphics
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Not as powerful as last year's model

gizmodo[3]

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from gizmodo have found:
Dell's XPS 15 is one of the best thin-and-light laptops on the market. The new model has much better thermals and can perform more tasks without ever needing to spin up its fans. Unlike Apple, Dell does include a free USB-C to USB-A/HDMI dongle in the box.
Pros
  • Smaller and lighter than last year's XPS 15
  • Great battery life
  • Improved graphics performance
Cons
  • Loud fans under full load
  • No Thunderbolt 3

laptopmag[4]

Reviewer score 94% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
The Dell XPS 15 can be a passable gaming laptop in a pinch. The laptop reached 135 frames per second on the 1080p Dirt 3 benchmark. The 0.08-inch webcam is proprietary and one of the smallest shooters you'll find integrated into a laptop. But for sharper and more color accurate shots, you should invest in an external webcam.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 16:10 display
  • Powerful graphics
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Shabby touchpad
  • No Thunderbolt 3

notebookcheck[5]

Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
At 15.1 x 9 cm, the Precision-enabled clickpad is 52 percent larger than the clickpad on the XPS 15 7590. Color space is at an interesting spot as it is measurably wider than sRGB while being smaller than AdobeRGB. There are no Core i9 options as of this writing and we're definitely not complaining.
Pros
  • Slim bezels
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Very warm core temperatures
  • No Core i9 options
  • No 4K UHD+ option

pcmag[6]

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The XPS 15 performed well in all of these tests, as you'd expect from an expensive laptop with a current-generation Core i7 processor. This is the first laptop we're testing with the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti GPU, a new-for-2020 entry-level-to-midrange option. It performs right in line with its expectations, a modestly powerful GPU.
Pros
  • Sleek, sleek design
  • Slim bezels
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3 port

pcworld[7]

Reviewer score 90% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcworld have found:
The XPS 15 9500's SD card slot outperformed a fast USB reader by 21 percent in reads and 18 percent in write speeds. The speakers are branded Waves Nx. Dell says they were tuned by Grammy-award winning producer Jack Joseph Puig. With its size, we were concerned about sending the cursor flying with our fat palms.
Pros
  • Sleek, lightweight design
  • Excellent keyboard and trackpad
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Trackpad could use a touch more bass

t3[8]

Reviewers from t3 have found:
The Dell XPS 15 9500 is a premium Windows 10 laptop with top-tier specs. The display is a stunner, the laptop is really well built and a pleasure to use. You can buy this laptop with or without a touchscreen, depending on what you need and how much money you want to spend. The laptop will last you a day away from the office and then some.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K display
  • Excellent speakers
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3
  • No 4K option

techadvisor[9]

Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techadvisor have found:
The Dell XPS 15 is a superb laptop in most respects. It's near-silent when the fans are whirring away at a low rpm. The 6-core, 12-thread processor has power similar to that of a desktop PC. Its Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti is not a favourite pick among enthusiasts. But its performance at 1080p resolution is adequate with recent games.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K screen
  • Excellent battery life
  • Decent speakers
Cons
  • No dedicated GTX 1650 Ti graphics
  • Mediocre speakers

techradar[10]

Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Dell XPS 15 is going to be the gold standard for prosumer laptops for the foreseeable future. Packed with an Intel Core i7-10875H and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, the laptop falls into what we would call the "prosumer" market. It's not so powerful that professional video editors or 3D artists are going to jump for it, but it's definitely powerful for anyone that does that stuff for a hobby, or just doesn't want to get slowed down.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K touch display
  • Excellent battery life
  • Excellent performance
Cons
  • Not the most powerful gaming laptop
  • No Thunderbolt 3

theverge[11]

Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from theverge have found:
The XPS 15 has an eight-core 10th Gen processor and healthy amount of RAM. The Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti is a midrange graphics card, though. It's not a great option for gaming unless you're willing to bump the eye candy down. Almost six hours of battery life isn't terrible for a system with an H-series processor.
Pros
  • Gorgeous new design
  • Slim bezels
  • Comfortable keyboard and touchpad
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • Poor cooling and power consumption
  • No Thunderbolt 3

tomsguide[12]

Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The Dell XPS 15 2020 follows in the footsteps of the new XPS 13 by making small but welcome refinements. The improved, truly bezel-less InfinityEdge display is one of the most immersive and gorgeous screens you can find on a laptop. Dell’s laptop lasted 8 hours and 1 minute on our battery test, which is decent for a 4K laptop.
Pros
  • Slim bezel-less InfinityEdge display
  • Slim, attractive design
  • Comfortable keyboard and touchpad
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • Fans can get loud.
  • Loud fans.

tomshardware[13]

Reviewers from tomshardware have found:
The Dell XPS 15 (9500) can last a full workday, even with a 4K screen. The base model, with an Intel Core i5-10300H, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD and a non-touch 1900 x 1200 display is $1,299. If you need more power, you can configure it with up to a Core i9-10885H and 2TB of NVMe storage.
Pros
  • Powerful performance
  • Strong audio
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3 port

trustedreviews[14]

Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The Dell XPS 15 (2020) has two 15.6-inch screen options: a non-touch Full HD panel and a touchscreen 4K display. The bright 400-nit display is bursting with sharp colours, while the superb 1236:1 contrast ensures bright lights stand out vividly from the darker shades. The 4K panel is also of a good enough standard for professional-grade content creation, with an sRGB colour gamut accuracy of 100%. Maxing out the specs will cost a mighty £2908.99.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K display
  • Excellent build quality
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No graphical grunt
  • No Thunderbolt 3

wired[15]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from wired have found:
Dell has a variety of spec configurations available for the XPS 15. There's the base model, which gets you a newer 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor. If you're a developer compiling software, or are looking for a mobile video editing station, stick with the mid- to higher-end configurations.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 4K screen
  • Slim aluminum chassis
  • Lots of ports
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Battery life isn't as good as the XPS 13
  • It can be loud
