External Reviews

pcmag[1]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Boombox 2 is compatible with Bluetooth 5.1, but supports only the SBC Bluetooth codec, not AAC nor AptX. There's lots of boosting in the lows and highs, with far less in the way of midrange presence. Purists won't be pleased, but for all the boosting and sculpting, it delivers a relatively balanced, crisp, rich performance that doesn't lean too heavily on the lows.
Pros
  • Powerful audio performance
  • Powerful bass depth
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No speakerphone functionality
  • No Bluetooth 5.1 support

rtings[2]

Reviewer score 28% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The JBL Boombox 2 has a well-balanced mid-range that can clearly reproduce dialogue. It can play stereo content without downmixing it to mono, but it doesn't have an EQ to let you tweak its sound profile. Although it can get quite loud, there are some compression artifacts present at max volume. Its soundstage is also somewhat directional, so audio is perceived as a bit narrow.
Pros
  • Well-balanced mid and treble ranges
  • Very portable
  • Good battery life
  • Well-baked mid-range
Cons
  • Some compression artifacts present at max volume
  • No EQ
  • Lacks some low-bass

techradar[3]

Reviewer score 63% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Boombox 2 doesn't support the two best codecs using it: aptX and AAC. It's a beast for its size, and we appreciated that it shrugged off distortion when we turned up the volume. The soundstage is essentially the same, and it does the job of filling more than a room. We also liked using it with tablets to watch content on YouTube and other streaming apps.
Pros
  • Great sound
  • Easy to use
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No aptX or AAC support
  • No equalizer
