Product Overview

Sony HT-G700 is a 3.1-channel soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. Thanks to Sony's Vertical Surround Engine, the three front speakers in the HT-G700, combined with Sony's digital signal processing, can intelligently place sound to envelop the listener in both horizontal and vertical planes, creating a 7.1.2 experience.
With Immersive Audio Enhancement, the HT-G700 can upscale sound sources, including stereo sources, to up to 7.1.2 surround sound. There is also a new, dedicated center speaker for vocals. The soundbar includes S-Force PRO feature that uplifts sound to fit larger TVs than its size.

gizmodo[1]

Sentiment Score 83%
Reviewers from gizmodo have found the following***:
The HT-G700 is a reasonably priced Dolby Atmos-capable soundbar and subwoofer combo. At $600, it sounds better than the $800 Sonos Arc alone. So long as you're okay without height or rear channels, and don't really care about having that in the future, this is a good deal for what you're getting.

Pros
  • Dolby Atmos-enabled sound
  • Sleek design
  • Good sound quality
Cons
  • No rear or height speakers
  • No Atmos support

cnet[2]

Sentiment Score 69%
Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The Sony HT-G700 can't do "proper" Atmos but it was capable of a truly entertaining performance. The soundbar itself is a grey slab which is roughly 39 inches wide and 2 and five-eighth inches high. I compared the Sony with the cheaper JBL 2.1 Bar for music.

Pros
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding
  • Comfortable remote control
  • Excellent sound quality
Cons
  • No HDMI input
  • No Dolby Vision

digitaltrends[3]

Sentiment Score 61%
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found the following***:
The Sony HT-G700 is a value for its price, offering great sound for both music and movies. As mentioned, the subwoofer provides solid bass, and the center speaker performs admirably. While its technology commendably compensates for its lack of true surround sound, it doesn't totally make up for the components it's lacking.

Pros
  • Great sound for music and movies
  • Dolby Atmos support
  • Easy to use remote control
Cons
  • Lacks true surround sound

rtings[4]

Sentiment Score 42%
Reviewers from rtings have found the following***:
The Sony HT-G700 is alright for mixed use. Its boomy sound profile lacks a thumpy low-bass, which some listeners may find a tad bit disappointing, especially if you're a fan of EDM or action movies. This soundbar is also able to reproduce voices accurately and clearly, so you can catch every line of your favorite soap operas.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Boomy sound profile
  • Can get loud enough to fill a large room or crowded room
  • Supports Dolby Atmos and DTS
Cons
  • Thumping and compression artifacts at max volume
  • Lacks low-bass

t3[5]

Sentiment Score 80%
Reviewers from t3 have found the following***:
The soundbar is just 64mm tall, so is an ideal height to sit under the screen of almost any TV. It has a small LCD screen hidden under the grille at the front, for showing volume level and also acts as the menu for changing settings. At 980mm, it's great for 48-inch TVs and up, and it wouldn't look silly with a 43-inch TV, either. The main competition to the Sony HT-G700 includes the Sharp HT-SWB800 mentioned above.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Powerful Dolby Atmos sound
  • Easy to set up
  • Wireless subwoofer
Cons
  • No HDMI passthrough

techhive[6]

Sentiment Score 80%
Reviewers from techhive have found the following***:
The HT-G700's long, thin, and non-backlit remote can be tricky to use. The Menu button is the only way to enable DTS Virtual:X and Dolby's virtual 3D sound modes. Immersive AE is a combination of two Sony audio technologies: Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force Pro.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and S-Force Pro virtual 3D sound modes
  • Supports eARC support
  • Works with Blu-ray players
Cons
  • Can be tricky to use
  • Doesn't support eARC

techradar[7]

Sentiment Score 63%
Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
's own technology to create a surround effect for stereo or 5.1 Dolby surround signals – but not Atmos. Only when this option is engaged can you use the ‘Auto Sound Mode' button on the remote control. At its unprocessed best the Sony is a little above average with music for a soundbar, but it never gets to the heart of music. We found it a little tiring for music over long periods.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Vibrant, expansive sound field
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
  • Immersive AE works well for movies and TV
Cons
  • Lack of treble clarity
  • No Dolby Vision or Atmos

trustedreviews[8]

Sentiment Score 71%
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found the following***:
The Sony HT-G700 is an ‘Atmos’ soundbar system for situations where it isn’t practical to fit multiple speakers in one space. Detail levels are high – higher than the VIZIO SB36512-F6 5.1.2 Atmos system – though tonally it comes across as lean. Vocals are solid and delivered with clarity, while the positioning of effects ensures you get steerage across the front-heavy soundstage as well as an accurate sense of placement.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Impressive Atmos performance
  • Decent build quality
Cons
  • No upfiring speakers
  • No Dolby Vision support

whathifi[9]

Sentiment Score 71%
Reviewers from whathifi have found the following***:
Sony's HT-G700 soundbar is fully compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. HDMI-CEC means you don't even need to set up the soundbar and TV. Soundbar and subwoofer automatically establish a wireless connection. Subwoofer can reach bassy depths, lending an enjoyable heft to the whole experience.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Sleek, lightweight design
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support
  • Easy to set up
Cons
  • Sound lacks punch and crispness
  • Lack of clarity to voices
