Product Overview

Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar is a high-end 5.1.4-channel all-in-one soundbar that features 13 drivers, including six 4-inch woofers, two top-firing units, and five 1-inch tweeters. All is encased in an elegant brushed aluminum exterior with a minimalist design.
The AMBEO Soundbar utilizes digital sound processing to reproduce a virtual surround experience with a broad frequency response down to 30Hz. It is compatible with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and MPEG-H, while Sennheiser's Upmix Technology up-samples stereo and 5.1-channel audio to create a 3D sound experience.
The first soundbar by the famed marque, the Sennheiser AMBEO soundbar extends the brand's AMBEO program, which aims to create an easy-to-consume immersive sound experience by leveraging digital processing.
In early 2021, Sennheiser released a firmware update that adds support for Sony's 360 Reality Audio.

Reviewers from cnet have found:
The Sennheiser Ambeo sound bar costs $2,500, £2,220, AU$4,000. It has 13 high-end drivers firing from the front, sides and top of the unit. It's a tall unit at 5.3 inches high, and 50 inches wide, which means it won't fit under TVs.
Pros
  • Dolby Atmos/DTS:X, HDMI 2.1, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support
  • Super-readable OLED screen
Cons
  • No headphone jack
  • No built-in sub

digitaltrends[2]

Reviewer score 93% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
From the start, the Ambeo is a wonder to behold. Effects like a fluttering bird circling my ears or a leaf floating around my head buzzed shockingly close from the sides and even back. Details — from the softest expression of a raspy throat, to sweet and resonant brass — are beautifully and delicately rendered. Sennheiser products are warrantied for two years for manufacturer defects.
Pros
  • Sennheiser Atmos and 5.1 surround performance
  • Powerful bass for music, films, and especially Atmos
  • DSP is subtle enough to keep instruments well-placed in an expansive mix
Cons
  • No HDMI 2.0 support
  • No Dolby Atmos support

hifichoice[3]

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from hifichoice have found:
The Ambeo has six 100mm, long-throw mid/bass drivers, five 25mm aluminium dome tweeters arranged across the front and sides and two Atmos-dedicated, upward-firing, 90mm full-range drivers. The back panel is comprehensively stocked with four HDMI inputs, a wi-fi Ethernet socket, a USB port (for firmware updates), an optical input, a stereo RCA aux in and a pre output. As well as compatibility with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and MPEG-H, there’s support for the latest HDMI standards.
Pros
  • Impressive sound quality
  • Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and MPEG-H
  • Comfortable to hold
Cons
  • No aptX for Bluetooth or AirPlay

pcmag[4]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Ambeo feature provides an excellent widening of the spatial experience. Low frequencies are nicely represented, the highs are crisp, and the overall experience is truly immersive. On tracks with intense sub-bass content, like The Knife's "Silent Shout," the bass depth is powerful, but again, the speaker is missing that truly thunderous low-end.
Pros
  • Excellent sound signature with rich bass depth and crisp highs
  • Ambeo mode is easy to use
Cons
  • No subwoofer
  • Subwoofer not included

rtings[5]

Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar has a unique 3D mode that greatly improves the surround performance. Its overall sound profile is pretty accurate, but it's lacking a bit in the bass range. On the upside, the bar can get very loud and has a few features like a dialogue enhancement and a night mode for a better listening experience.
Pros
  • Accurate stereo reproduction of voices with content like audiobooks, podcasts, and TV shows
  • Room correction feature
Cons
  • Bass lacks a bit in the bass range
  • Soundstage can get very loud

t3[6]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from t3 have found:
With the AMBEO it's able to achieve some excellent dialogue clarity without being too in your face. A night mode is available to keep your neighbors on your good side. There's, of course, no avoiding the price tag — and the fact that it's up to $1,000 (approx. AU$2,000) more expensive than some other options.
Pros
  • Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and 360 Reality Audio
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • No surround speakers or subwoofer

techhive[7]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techhive have found:
The Ambeo Soundbar's app is designed quite well. The soundstage was quite wide with some high-frequency sounds. Dolby Virtualization rendered the sound more in the front of the room with a smaller soundstage. The app lost its connection to the soundbar after my phone went to sleep.
Pros
  • High-frequency output from the Dolby Atmos disc
  • Dolby Virtualization works well
  • Easy to set up and use
Cons
  • App loses connection after a while
  • No control in the app

techradar[8]

Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Sennheiser's Ambeo Soundbar is the most impressive single-piece speaker system we've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Dolby Atmos 3D effects work surprisingly well, and the upmixing option can enhance non-Atmos films and TV shows. Wi-Fi streaming relies on Google's Chromecast technology – which requires you to install the Google Home app – and there's no support for Apple's AirPlay. It's hard to fault the sound quality, but the reliance on Google Home for wifi streaming seems like an odd choice.
Pros
  • Dolby Atmos works well with movies and TV
  • Excellent sound quality
Cons
  • No Wi-Fi support
  • No AirPlay support

trustedreviews[9]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
ecast and Bluetooth (4.2) are integrated. The soundbar is also compatible with Chromecast and the Google Home app. A rather small remote control offers access to a variety of audio presets (movie, music, news, sports, neutral and night), as well as source selection and volume control. The bar ships with a high-quality calibration microphone.
Pros
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
  • Impressive sound quality
Cons
  • App isn’t particularly polished
  • No on-screen display

whathifi[10]

Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from whathifi have found:
Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar has six 10cm woofers and five 25mm tweeters. Driver array consists of two upward-firing, 9cm full-range drivers. Calibration involves plugging in the bundled mic and waiting around a minute while sounds are fired out and measured.
Pros
  • Natural, natural tonality and texture
  • Easy to set up and use
Cons
  • No Dolby Vision or Atmos support
