Porsche Taycan Turbo & Turbo S Electric Sedan

MSRP 103800 USDNEX score 88%

Product Overview

Taycan is the first fully-electric vehicle by Porsche. It is also the first production electric vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of 400. This makes fast charging using DC significantly faster.
Another innovation is the two-speed transmission installed on the rear axle: the first gear gives Taycan even more acceleration from standing still while the second gear enhances efficiency at high speeds.

autocar[1]

Sentiment Score 88%
Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The Taycan is the most dynamically convincing four-seat EV we've yet driven. It feels lighter on its feet than a Panamera, despite being 300kg heavier. The steering feels quick but not darty, weighty but consistent. Forward visibility is excellent (although rearward visibility is pretty poor for a saloon, so the car's cameras are vital) The only area in which the Taycan doesn't have the measure of rivals is range – crucial for many.

Pros
  • Class-leading electric performance
  • Impressive handling
Cons
  • Not as fun to drive as a 911
  • Only so-so range

autocar[2]

Sentiment Score 87%
Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
On more common 400V chargers, the Taycan will charge at just 50kW as standard, with 150kW capacity only as a £294 option. While the range is less than Tesla’s Model S, in mixed and sometimes quick driving, the car does deliver what it says. The Taycan might just be more enjoyable to drive than any other current four-door Porsche.

Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Impressive range
Cons
  • No engine
  • No hybrid or stop/start

autoexpress[3]

Sentiment Score 85%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
Porsche claims the 0-62mph time of 2.8 seconds is repeatable. The Taycan uses the same drive modes (Normal, Sport, Sport+) as a petrol-powered Porsche. There isn't the same adjustability on the throttle as you might get in a Panamera GTS, but the brakes have a delightful consistency.

Pros
  • Powerful Turbo S
  • Powerful engine
Cons
  • No regenerative set-up
  • Loud in the back

digitaltrends[4]

Sentiment Score 90%
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found the following***:
It's nimbler than its size and weight would lead you to believe. The regenerative braking system is extremely powerful. While its brakes have a huge amount of bite, I'd welcome the ability to one-pedal drive it on back roads. In the United States, the Taycan comes standard with three years of unlimited 30-minute fast-charging sessions.

Pros
  • Powerful engines
  • Powerful regenerative braking system
  • Excellent range
Cons
  • No one-pedal driving
  • No electric-only option
