BMW X5 M G05
Mid-Size CrossoverProduct Gallery
Product Overview
The third generation X5 M is based on the fourth generation BMW X5 (G05). Powered by two S63 bi-turbocharged V8s that displace 4.4L, X5 M accelerates to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds.
For the first time, BMW introduces a M Competition model that squeezes the last bit of performance out of the X5 M.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, need to think twice before pulling the trigger: the BMW X5 M (G05) is hardly the "offroader" that BMW would like you to think.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the BMW X5 M (G05) comes with double-wishbone at the front and multi-link at the rear. This is a bit unusual for AWD and less tunable than a multi-link front setup, but what you lose in performance you gain in durability.

autoexpress[1]
Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)The BMW X5 M Competition is an impressive performance SUV, but lacks the sparkle that puts a smile on your face. It's fast (but far from frugal) and rides relatively well, while it boasts the same level of practicality and technology as other X5s. But when it comes to comfort, refinement and luxury, there's better value elsewhere in the line-up.
Pros
- Fantastic infotainment system
- Impressive handling
Cons
- No sparkle
- Lack of refinement
carmagazine[2]
Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)The X5 M Competition has different wheels, a louder exhaust and more power from the same engine, shaving 0.1sec off the 0-62mph time. For this you'll pay £110,610, and you can add £2095 for the M Driver's Package, which ups the top speed from 155 to 180mph. Don't get us wrong – this is a hugely impressive piece of kit, but it's also limited in its usefulness as everyday transport.
Pros
- Powerful V8 engine
- Powerful all-wheel drive
- Comfortable to drive
Cons
- Over-abundance of controls
carwow[3]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)The BMW X5 M Competition has so much going for it, it's a bit like a car designed via a focus group. It's spacious, practical, has a lovely cabin, great infotainment and is fast yet comfy. You can't be the shy and retiring type to own one, with its gaping black grille, huge air intakes, huge wheels and large exhausts.
Pros
- Fantastic infotainment system
- Comfortable to drive
Cons
- Expensive compared to standard X5s
cnet[4]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)BMW's iDrive system is both immensely responsive and incredibly complicated. Apple CarPlay is included at no extra charge. The optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system rocks and isn't too unreasonably priced at $3,400. The 2020 BMW X5 M Competition is lovely inside and feature-laden.
Pros
- Gorgeous interior
- Excellent infotainment system
- Lots of driver aids
Cons
- Lack of Android Auto
