Dan D'Agostino Relentless Monoblock Monaural Power Amplifier: The Relentless Pursuit of Sonic Integrity w/ Expansive Soundstage
Dan D'Agostino amplifiers have always been la crème de la crème. His Momentum series amplifiers in particular have been advancing with a number of engineering innovations. In 2018, the Relentless Monoblock was introduced to eclipse his prior efforts with an amplifier that maintains harmonic integrity and expansive soundstage from 0 to 100 (1500 watts into 8 ohms, 3000 watts into 4 ohms, and 6000 watts! into 2 ohms).
Sonic Integrity
Power without balance is meaningless in audio. Dan D'Agostino Reletentless Monoblock employs a new, fully complementary, balanced circuitry: Essentially, the positive and negative polarities are driven discretely like two separate monaural power amplifiers, one on the left, one on the right. This symmetric circuitry ensures that perfect balance is kept from the input stage all the way to the output stage: Any distortion artifacts that appear on one half of the signal will also appear on the other half, thus cancelling out each other.
In the Relentless Monoblock, the gain circuits operate in the current domain, with voltage unaffected. This ensures the same level of performance at any volume.
Turbocharged Power
To easily manage an expansive soundstage at any volume, the Relentless Monoblock has an immensely powerful power supply. At its core is a multi-section transformer potted and encased in a metal shield. This design virtually eliminates transformer noise and protects the amplifier's audio circuitry from the magnetic field of the transformer. The transformer feeds a custom rectifier circuit and a 600,000-microfarad/100-volt capacitor bank.
Dan D'Agostino's unique "Super Rail" design makes maximal use of this incredible power supply. Super Rail features higher voltage rails in the sections prior to the output stage, exploiting the full capability of the output voltage rails. This arrangement thereby improves dynamics, lowers distortion, and enhances control over the sound output.
Elegant & Functional
The Relentless Monoblock employs a unique heat sink made of copper and aluminium that draws heat away from internal components. The elaborate elliptical design expands on the venturi heat sink. This system ensures safety and reliability when the amplifier is ran at full power continuously.
The entire chassis of the Dan D'Agostino Relentless Monoblock is machined from solid aluminium. High-precision milling allows the entire chassis to fit together without visible fasteners.
Up front, the Monoblock features a supersized power meter that measures over 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter. Its range and response automatically adjust to the level of the input signal, making it equally easy to read.
A pair of Dan D'Agostino Relentless Monoblock is priced at $250,000.
