Product Overview

Canon EOS R3 is a new professional sports / action camera for the company's full-frame mirrorless RF system. It signals the end of Canon's commitment to DSLRs, for its feature set and form factor, while not vastly superior, clearly outstrip that of Canon's last DSLR flagship, the 1DX Mark III.
Like the 1DX Mark III and the EOS R5, the EOS R3 features a DIGIC X image processor. With the removal of the OVF, however, the R3 is markedly lighter than the 1DX-III. As expected, the R3 has more powerful video recording capabilities, including support for 6K 60p in RAW, 4K 120p, and 4K 60p down-sampled from 6K.
Compared to the R5, the R3 uses the same EVF, but its LCD is upgraded to a 4.15-million-dot unit. It also flips out, which used to be a consumer-grade feature (but due to demands from YouTubers has crept to the professional grade.
It is uncertain whether Canon will release an even more upscale model, perhaps named the EOS R1. In fact, we speculate that the R3 was to be named the R1, but since Sony released the A1 Canon may feel the need to reserve the R1 moniker for a future model.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 91%
Reviewers from cameralabs have found the following***:
The Canon EOS R3 is aimed at professionals who demand the fastest speed and toughest body. While it outperforms the 1Dx Mark III in most respects, it’s officially positioned between it and the Eos R5. The R3 employs Canon's first stacked BSI sensor for high-speed readout and reduced rolling shutter, as well as supporting a top shooting speed of 30fps with AF and AE tracking.

Pros
  • Superb 4k video quality
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No autofocus
  • Not as powerful as the 1Dx Mark III

pcmag[2]

Reviewer score 89%
Reviewers from pcmag have found the following***:
Canon EOS R3 is loaded with features, including an autofocus system that nails you with your eyes, but still nails the fundamentals. Its $6,000 price is on the high end for full-frame, but right in the middle of the pack among similarly capable cameras. Its 24MP sensor doesn't pack as many pixels as some, such as the Nikon Z 9.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Superlative autofocus system
  • High-resolution 4K video
  • HDR viewfinder
Cons
  • No macro focus bracketing

techradar[3]

Reviewer score 86%
Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
Canon EOS R3 is designed very much for pro sports photographers. Full-frame, 24MP stacked CMOS sensor is, by any measure, a cracking one. Can unusually shoot raw video internally (at 6K/60p, using the full width of the sensor) and oversampled 4K/ 60p video.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Full-frame, 24MP CMOS sensor
  • Excellent image quality
  • Compact, lightweight design
Cons
  • Can’t shoot in 4K/60p

digitalpicture[4]

Reviewer score 86%
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found the following***:
The R3 arrives as the highest-priced Canon EOS R-series camera ever. It is also the highest performing model ever in that lineup. The R3 appears an especially good value when compared to the significantly higher price of the 1D X Mark III. With advanced performance, the R3 becomes a strong contender to the R5.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent support for Canon professional services
  • Excellent build quality
Cons
  • Fingerprint sensor could be better
