Product Overview

Razer Huntsman V2 is a flagship optical mechanical gaming keyboard that features the new 2nd-gen Razer Optical Switches. Combined with Razer's HyperPolling Technology, the Huntsman V2 is able to support 8000Hz polling rate, the highest in the industry today.
The Huntsman V2 can be purchased with either Clicky Purple switches or Linear Red switches. Both variants enjoy 100 million keystroke lifespan and feature Razer's Doubleshot PBT keycaps.
Beyond these upgrades, the Huntsman V2 is rather similar to the original Huntsman and the Huntsman V2 Analog unveiled months earlier. It boasts N-key rollover with anti-ghosting, and there is onboard storage for 5 custom profiles. Razer also supplies the keyboard with a leatherette wrist rest, and the keyboard features matte aluminum top plate and braided USB-C cable.

Reviewers from gizmodo have found the following***:
The Huntsman V2 has textured Doubleshot PBT Keycaps, compared to the Huntsman Elite's spraypainted ABS keycaps. The second-generation Linear Red switches aren't bouncy, but they don't feel mushy either. There's no longer a thick cable taking up two ports on my already scarce laptop dock.

Pros
  • Comfortable typing experience
  • Lighting effects and macro recording
  • Comfortable switches
Cons
  • No more underglow
  • No more Chroma RGB

laptopmag[2]

Reviewer score 86%
Reviewers from laptopmag have found the following***:
The Huntsman V2 is one of the quietest gaming keyboards I've tested. The optical switches perform at a 0.2 millisecond latency, whereas the average mechanical gaming keyboard clocks in at 2.0 to 2.4ms. The keys are also optimized for different scenarios, so you can switch between Typing and Gaming.

Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Powerful gaming performance
  • Comfortable to hold
Cons
  • No Auto button

rtings[3]

Reviewer score 45%
Reviewers from rtings have found the following***:
The Razer Linear Optical switches on our unit have a very short pre-travel distance and a light operating force. You can set macros to any key from directly on the board or using the Synapse 3 software. The board has two incline settings and a nice leatherette wrist rest. It feels very well-built, though the larger keys wobble a bit.

Pros
  • Feels very well-built
  • Comfortable leatherette wrist rest
  • Very quiet to type on
  • Low pre-travel distance and a light operating force
  • Fully customizable RGB backlighting
Cons
  • Smaller keys wobble a bit
  • No trackpad

t3[4]

Reviewer score 89%
Reviewers from t3 have found the following***:
The Razer Huntsman V2 is one of the fastest gaming keyboards on the market. It scans for keypresses 8,000 times a second and reports that information back to your computer. You can customise the RGBs in the Razer Synapse desktop software, and it can be synchronised with your other compatible Razer kit as well.

Pros
  • Super-fast polling rate
  • Stunning RGB lighting effects
  • Comfortable wrist rest
Cons
  • Scroll dampening isn’t as effective as you would have liked

techradar[5]

Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The Razer Huntsman V2 optical gaming keyboard is an absolute joy to type on. It gives you the tactile satisfaction of the best mechanical keyboards while sparing the ears and sanity of those around you. If you are offended at the idea of a quiet mechanical keyboard, you do have the option of getting it with Clicky (Purple) key switches for $10 less (about £10 / AU$15)

Pros
  • 8,000Hz polling rate
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No RGB backlighting

theverge[6]

Reviewer score 56%
Reviewers from theverge have found the following***:
The Huntsman V2 is available with either clicky or linear switch options. linear switches specifically have been updated since the original Huntsman, and now have a built in “silicon sound dampener” It means the two switch types feel radically different, far more so than you'd expect when comparing the clicky and linear options on another keyboard. The clicky switches are better, but I still don't think the typing experience is great.

Pros
  • Crisp and clean typing experience
  • Fast polling and optical switches
  • Easy to use software
Cons
  • Slow response time
  • Not as responsive as competitors

tomsguide[7]

Reviewer score 76%
Reviewers from tomsguide have found the following***:
The Razer Huntsman V2 uses optical switches rather than mechanical ones. In theory, this means the keyboard sends and receives signals much, much faster than a purely mechanical model. The keyboard runs on the Razer Synapse software, which lets you reprogram keys, set up profiles for individual games, manipulate the RGB lighting.

Pros
  • Excellent typing performance
  • Excellent RGB lighting
  • USB-C port slides into USB-C
Cons
  • No number pad
  • No dedicated media keys

tomshardware[8]

Reviewer score 77%
Reviewers from tomshardware have found the following***:
The Huntsman V2 is a premium keyboard from its build to its keycaps and programmability. Every key is reprogrammable with actions like macros, tweaking RGB or launching a specific website. It takes a long time to get well acquainted with the Chroma plug-in, but has a lot of personalization potential. If you're looking for one of the best gaming keyboards available with almost all the bells and whistles, you'll have to spend more.
Find the original article here.
Pros
  • High polling rate
  • Comfortable and well-spaced keys
  • Excellent software macro recording and programmable keys
Cons
  • PBT keycaps have rough texture
