Product Overview

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X is a desktop CPU based on AMD's 4th-gen Zen (Zen 3) architecture. With 12 cores and 24 threads, the 5900X delivers a base clock of 3.7GHz and a boost clock of up to 4.8GHz. It is comparable to two conjoined Ryzen 5 5600Xs, with two 6-core dies sharing a single I/O die.
The Ryzen 9 5900X has 384KB + 384KB L1 cache, 6MB L2 cache, and 64MB L3 cache. It provides 24 lanes of PCIe 4.0 and has a default TDP of 105W.
The Zen 3 architecture uses TSMC's 7nm process for the chiplets and GlobalFoundries' 14nm processor for the I/O die. Like other Ryzen 5000-series processors, the 5900X supports DDR4 up to 3200MHz. It is also unlocked. With AMD Ryzen Master Utility, the 5900X makes it easy to manage overclocking. It supports AMD Ryzen VR Ready Premium that makes it a good choice for VR applications.

Reviewer score 84%
Reviewers from pcmag have found the following***:
The Zen 3-based Ryzen 9 5900X is the new pace-setter, topping Intel's Core i9-10900K on all fronts. It's also shattering top speed records in many games like CSGO. In our eyes, the chip continues to be overkill if all you are getting it for is games. For gaming at 1080p or 1440p alone on a tight budget, we'd still recommend picking up the stellar Ryzen 3 3300X.

Pros
  • Top-notch gaming performance
  • Excellent overclocking
  • Competitive price
Cons
  • Overclocking could be better
  • No overclocking headroom

techradar[2]

Reviewer score 89%
Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The AMD Ryzen 9 5900X is the fastest processor we've ever tested on a mainstream platform. In all but one of our tests, it was significantly ahead of not only its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 3900X, but ahead of its main competition – the Intel Core i9-10900K. The biggest story here is the significant jump in single-core performance, facilitated by that ground-up redesign in the Zen 3 architecture.

Pros
  • Great single-core performance
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Great value for money
Cons
  • No RTX 2080
