Product Overview

Fujifilm XF 50mm F1.0 (XF50mmF1.0 R WR) is a large-aperture mid-telephoto prime lens for Fujifilm's X-mount mirrorless system. With its 76mm full-frame equivalent focal length and f/1.0 maximum aperture, the XF 50mm F1.0 is optimized for portrait photography.
The larger aperture and professional design ensures that the XF 50mm F1.0 delivers a creamy bokeh while delivering sharpness in the field of focus.
For autofocus at such large aperture, Fujifilm has given this lens a DC motor capable of driving large lens elements at speed. AF in the XF 50mm F1.0 is optimized for on-sensor phase detection and is compatible with Eye AF. It is capable of autofocus at -7EV.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 80%
Reviewers from cameralabs have found the following***:
Fujifilm XF 50mm f1.0 is a very bright prime lens for X-series mirrorless cameras. It delivers short telephoto coverage that’s ideal for portraits. In my tests, it delivered sharp details into the corners even at f1 so long as they fell within its razor thin depth-of-field. The rendering was also attractive, capable of obliterating backgrounds and avoiding busy bokeh.

Pros
  • Very bright f1.0
  • Wide-open and wide-open
  • Compact design
Cons
  • No de-clickable aperture rings
  • Small blobs from 50mm f1

Reviewers from dpreview have found the following***:
The Fuji XF 50mm F1.0 R WR is something of a niche product. It's clearly aimed at portrait shooters and those for whom a shallow depth of field is the overriding concern. While it's not tack-sharp at its widest apertures, it nevertheless delivers a very flat plane of focus.

Pros
  • Gorgeous bokeh
  • Excellent flare and ghosting-resistance
  • Very wide F1.0 maximum aperture
Cons
  • Lacks longitudinal chromatic aberration
  • Slow autofocus

Reviewers from pcmag have found the following***:
The XF 50mm F1.0 really nets the full-frame look in the APS-C format. There's a bit less detail at the edges of the frame when working at wide apertures. The 56mm is also available in a version with an integrated ADP filter. It's a better fit for photographers who work in brighter light.

Pros
  • Lightweight, compact design
  • Wide field of view
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Bokeh shape
  • Lacks contrast detection
