Product Overview

The 4th-gen Kia Sorento is a three-row mid-size crossover with modern design and a high-tech cabin. It is the first vehicle to be based on Kia's new mid-size SUV platform with a larger body for increased cargo space.
Inspired by the Kia Telluride, the Sorento adopts many design elements such as the vertical tail lamps, sharper lines, and trim on the sporty lower rear bumper.
It is also the first time that a Sorento features Kia's new Smartstream electrified hybrid powertrains.
Available in Europe with a choice of 10 paint finishes, and the option of 17-, 18-, 19- and, for the first time in the line-up, 20-inch aluminium alloy wheels, the 4th-gen Kia Sorento comes with a 7-year, 150000 km warranty.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The Sorento is the first model to sit on Kia’s latest mid-size SUV platform. It is now available with a hybridised petrol engine and there will be a plug-in hybrid launched later this year. In 2 specification, it comes in at £38,845, which makes it a bit pricier than the likes of the Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq.

Pros
  • Plenty of space in the second row
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Pricier than rivals
  • Lack of standard kit

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
Kia’s new Smartstream unit isn’t one that sounds like it could have come out of a Massey-Ferguson. Despite weighing just shy of two tonnes, the Sorento diesel charges forth, hitting 60mph in 9.1sec. It also picks up decently when the speed limit changes or you’re pulling into the other lane for an overtake.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good range of driving modes
  • Decent handling
Cons
  • Expensive for what it is
  • Noisy diesel engine

autocar[3]

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The Sorento is one of only a few seven-seat SUVs capable of zero-emissions driving. It shares its 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with the self-charging SoreNTo Hybrid, but gains a more powerful electric motor. With a combined 261bhp sent to both axles via a six-speed automatic transmission, this is the most potent version of the fourth-generation SUV. It qualifies for an 11% benefit-in-kind tax rate after 6 April.

Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Comfortable ride
  • Decent infotainment
Cons
  • Slightly heavier than standard Sorento
  • Unreliable lane assist

The Sorento is in the base 2 trim, starting at a punchy £45,245. In typical Kia fashion, there aren't many optional extras, other than accessories: just the premium paint, at £600. Highlights include the third row air-con that got my son so excited, enough USB charging ports to keep an army of screen-obsessed teens happy.

Pros
  • Fun to drive
  • Lots of storage
  • Decent economy
Cons
  • No satnav
  • No optional extras

The fourth-generation Kia Sorento was revealed to the public early in 2020 and went on sale in the UK later that year. It’s a seven-seat SUV in all its guises, with Kia saying there are no plans for a five-seat model, and it sits at the top of a crowded Kia SUV range. Under the bonnet you have a further three options: the standard 2.2-litre CRDi diesel with an eight-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic gearbox, a full hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. All models are four-wheel drive.

Pros
  • Competitively priced
  • Good towing capability
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • No five-seat option
  • No four-wheel drive option

The all-new Kia Sorento goes on sale in the UK from £38,845. The seven-seat Korean SUV has long been one of the best-value, most family-friendly SUVs around. It's now packed with tech you won't find anywhere else. It also looks better than ever and, although its price is creeping into genuine premium territory, it's a difficult package to fault.

Pros
  • Fantastic looks
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Lots of tech
Cons
  • Not the prettiest cabin
  • No automatic gearbox or four-wheel drive

The Sorento is Kia's fourth-generation family SUV. Powered by an all-new 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain. Prices start at £38,845 for the entry-level '2' trim. Most buyers are likely to step up to mid-spec '3' trim, which adds £3,900.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good range of hybrid powertrains
Cons
  • Too firm for a seven-seat SUV

nto PHEV can do up to 35 miles on electric power alone. The result is a fleet-pleasing 38g/km of CO2 emissions – and a Benefit in Kind (BiK) tax rating of 11 per cent. Kia is currently offering the PHEV with a £2,500 ‘Kia plug-in hybrid' discount.

Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good range-topper
Cons
  • Pricier than standard PHEV

The Kia Sorento offers three rows of seats, in both six- and seven-passenger configurations. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard with that 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. The steering is smooth but unremarkable, like just about any other crossover available these days.

Pros
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Lack of refinement
  • No automatic transmission

Out of the few hybrid midsize SUVs on the market, the Sorento Hybrid is the most efficient one of the bunch. Kia’s Eco mode doesn’t nuke the responsiveness of the throttle pedal, making it feel more like a normal drive mode. Ford offers the Explorer Hybrid with rear and all-wheel drive, but the 2022 model is still worth buying.

Pros
  • Class-leading fuel economy
  • Stylish styling
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Pricier than other midsize SUVs

The Sorento Hybrid seats seven, with third-row seating that places the passenger low to the floor with knees tucked up. With all three rows occupied, there's limited cargo space behind the third row and in underfloor storage. Kia's infotainment system is intuitive and responsive, allowing you to easily access details beyond the home menu.

Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Powerful electric motor
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Lack of cargo space
  • No electric-only option
