laptopmag[1]

Reviewer score 84%
Reviewers from laptopmag have found the following***:
The Z5 feels like more of a stealthy stills camera and less of a run-and-gun 4K video platform. The battery life of the EN-EL15c pack is weighted in favor of stills at 470 shots compared to the Z6’s 380 shots. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options for connectivity with a handful of apps from Nikon.

Pros
  • High-quality, high-quality LCD
  • Excellent battery life
  • Easy to set up and use
Cons
  • No top display
  • No telephoto lens

t3[2]

Reviewers from t3 have found the following***:
The Nikon Z5 is Nikon's first full-frame camera. It's aimed at travel photographers, and those looking for a small and neat compact. You can buy the Z5 with a new “kit lens’, which gives you a 24-50mm focal length. In good lighting, the shots produced by this camera have a satisfying vibrance to them.

Pros
  • Well-performing sensor
  • Fantastic viewfinder
  • Great build quality
Cons
  • 4.5fps maximum frame rate
  • No back-illuminated sensor

techradar[3]

Reviewer score 67%
Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The Nikon Z5 shares the same resolution as the Z6, but uses a different full-frame sensor. While the Z5 can shoot in 4K at 30p, it has to crop the sensor by 1.7x. You can, however, shoot in Full HD without any crop limitations at up to 60p, although there are no 120p slow-mo modes. The 273-point AF system is a very good performer, bettering rivals like the EOS RP and Alpha A7 II. Focus tracking worked well, locking on swiftly and reliably tracking our subjects.

Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent build quality
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Limited burst shooting speed
  • No vari-angle display

tomsguide[4]

Reviewer score 79%
Reviewers from tomsguide have found the following***:
The Nikon Z5 shoots 4K Ultra HD/30p plus 1080/60p footage, but it is cropped. The Z5 is easy to shoot with and the in-camera image stabilization is helpful for hand-held shots. The camera uses a hybrid phase-detection/contrast AF with AF assist.

Pros
  • Excellent image stabilization
  • Dual SD card slots
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No on-body pop-up flash
  • No telephoto zoom

trustedreviews[5]

Reviewer score 69%
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found the following***:
Nikon has kept the same very high-resolution viewfinder as found in the Z6 for the Z5. It uses the less robust SD format, rather than a single XQD slot. The 24-50mm kit lens is a good lens to get you started with, especially if you’re travelling and want to keep your kit as light as possible.

Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent viewfinder
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Not quite as sharp as other Z lenses
  • No back-side illumination
