Product Overview

Like its predecessors, the third generation X6 M is powered by 4.4L S63 biturbo engines, making 600 hp in the standard model and 625 in X6 M Competition. The latter is a new addition to the lineup.
Like the X5 to which the X6 M is closely related, the Competition model is the ultimate performance machine that BMW has to offer in the crossover / SUV segment.

The X6 M uses the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 used by the latest M5. With different electronic mapping, among other unspecified changes, it gains a further 24bhp, taking the output of the Competition model sold in the UK to 616bhp at 6000rpm. Drive is channelled via an eight-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox with steering-wheel mounted shift paddles.

Reviewer score 52%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The X6 was the first SUV from a mainstream manufacturer to adopt an unconventional, sportier silhouette. Under the coupe-styled bodywork, it's little more than a rebodied X5. The M50i model uses a turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 producing 523bhp and 750Nm torque. It sends power to an xDrive all-wheel drive set-up through an eight-speed automatic gearbox with wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Pros
  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Stylish styling
Cons
  • Not as practical as X5
  • Lack of standard infotainment
