Reviewers from androidauthority have found the following***:
The Mate XS is essentially modeled after the revised Mate X build we saw at IFA 2019. The battery and charging capabilities have also been upgraded over the Mate X. The foldable's UX also benefits from a new feature called App Multiplier. There's no Google Play Store or any of those Google apps so many rely on every day.

Pros
  • Foldable design
  • Fast processor
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • No Google Play Store
  • No waterproofing

Reviewers from digitaltrends have found the following***:
The Huawei Mate Xs costs 2,300 British pounds, which converts to around $2,750. It's available through Huawei itself, Carphone Warehouse, and on contract with Three UK. Reception is great across the board, with 4G performance noticeably better than some other phones. Huawei has plenty of software and hardware enhancements inside that keep the software running smoothly.

Reviewers from nextpit have found the following***:
Huawei's move app, Phone Clone, is a loyal servant when it comes to setting up the new Mate Xs. You can still access a lot of data that you have stored on your old smartphone with Google Mobile Services and the cloud services of the search engine giant. In everyday life, I was able to operate the Huawei Mate X for a whole working day.

  • Good performance
Cons
  • No 5G

notebookcheck[4]

Reviewers from notebookcheck have found the following***:
The display is not bright enough to be usable in direct sunlight. A few URLs only show the mobile version of their site despite the big screen size. The 512-GB UFS 3.0 storage is not only very large but also extremely fast. The hardware of the Huawei Mate Xs delivers strong gaming performance.

You won't find any of the Google Apps on it (that's things like YouTube, Gmail or Chrome) There aren't other popular apps such as Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp. As long as you know what you're getting into, the Mate Xs can handle most Android apps but there's a lot of hassle to get them.

tomsguide[6]

Reviewers from tomsguide have found the following***:
The Huawei Mate Xs has a front 6.6-inch display and a rear 6.4-inch screen. When unfolded, the two screens combine to make an 8-inch device. The bar on the side of the phone, which also acts as a handle, measures 11mm deep. A quartet of camera sensors also live within the bar, and feature the same Leica-tuned lenses that appear on Huawei's P30 Pro and Mate 30 Pro.

  • Foldable display
  • Excellent battery life
  • 5G connectivity
Cons
  • No selfie camera

Reviewers from trustedreviews have found the following***:
The Mate Xs has one large 8-inch panel that folds in half to create both a 6.6-inch front screen and 6.38-inch rear panel. Powering the foldable is Huawei’s own Kirin 990 5G chipset. A lot of the camera skills come from the Mate 30 Pro, including a main 40-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 lens. The Falcon Wing hinge has been upgraded with a firmer feel and a more satisfying click when it's shut.

Pros
  • Foldable design
  • Impressive camera performance
Cons
  • No 4G
  • No waterproofing
