Product Overview

iPhone 13 Pro Max is the flagship model of Apple's 2021 smartphone lineup. It boasts a unique (to Apple) 6.7-inch OLED display with 1000nits brightness and 120Hz refresh rate. It also enjoys a stainless steel chassis shared with the standard iPhone 13 Pro, much like its 12th-gen predecessor.
Apple has endowed the iPhone 13 Pro Max with the most powerful mobile SoC that it has produced, the A15 Bionic. According to Apple, the A15 Bionic is up to 50% faster than comparative Android models. As it stands, while MacBook remains a not-so-great option for gaming, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is the ultimate gaming smartphone indeed.
Like the iPhone 13 Pro, the Max model comes with a LiDAR scanner for VR applications. It also has a tri-camera setup that caters to users who enjoy taking pictures with their phones.

Reviewers from androidauthority have found the following***:
The iPhone 13 Pro Max is an unadventurous but respectable continuation of that successful formula. The drawback is that Apple's ultra-premium flagship can't really be said to be on the cutting edge. Apple's ProMotion display is late to the 120Hz party and it's going to be many more months until third-party developers leverage the phone's capabilities.

Pros
  • Superb performance
  • Excellent cameras
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No IP68 rating
  • No wireless charging

If you can't see the difference between 120Hz and 60Hz (or care for it), then perhaps don't upgrade from the 12 to the 13 and wait for the major updates expected on the 14. If the 'big' part isn't as important, the 13 Pro will mostly deliver in the other areas - it has the latest cameras and the 120Hz display. Battery life may not be as earth-shattering on the small one, and that's the only potential drawback for going small that we can think of.

Pros
  • Gorgeous 120Hz display
  • Fantastic battery life
  • Excellent cameras
Cons
  • No 120Hz refresh rate
  • No headphone jack

The iPhone 13 Pro Max runs on the recently released iOS 15. iOS 15 comes with several updates that bring improvements to Safari, Apple Maps, FaceTime and notifications just to name a few. If you’re a content hoarder, I’d seriously consider the $1,599 model that I reviewed.

Reviewers from pcmag have found the following***:
The iPhone 13 Pro Max doesn't have some of the S21 Ultra's wildest features. But when it comes to video, Apple's algorithms always seem to result in more consistent focus and more reliable exposure balance. The 13 Pro and Pro Max also introduce macro photography, which lets you take super-sharp close-up shots.

Pros
  • Incredible battery life
  • Excellent low-light camera
  • 5G connectivity
Cons
  • No 8K video recording
  • No HDR10+

techradar[5]

Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 120Hz maximum refresh rate. This means images on the screen refresh up to 120 times every second. The display's resolution is 2778 x 1284, which works out to 458 pixels per inch. MagSafe, which alongside Ceramic Shield was another new feature last year, also returns. There's fast-charging technology up to 20 watts (that'll depend on the type of charger you're using), and you can also charge the phone wirelessly.

Pros
  • Top-tier performance
  • 120Hz display
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No reverse wireless charging
  • No wireless charging

techradar[6]

Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
Apple is making some bold claims about the iPhone 13 Pro Max, selling it as one of the most powerful smartphones out there right now. While the numbers that we saw in our benchmarking absolutely back Apple up, the real-world performance is what matters. If you're a creative looking for a phone that can help you record high-quality video or work on high-power tasks, this is your phone. The upgraded iOS 15 is coming to most iPhones, so the new capabilities aren't too much to get excited about.

Pros
  • Fantastic performance
  • Improved Weather app
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • Not as powerful as the iPhone 12 Pro Max

tomsguide[7]

Reviewers from tomsguide have found the following***:
The iPhone 13 Pro Max lasted 12 hours and 16 minutes on the Tom’s Guide battery test. It took only 25 seconds for the phone to transcode a 4K file to 1080p in the Adobe Premiere Rush app. iOS 15 isn’t the leap iOS 14 was in terms of adding widgets, but it delivers some smart and fun upgrades.

Pros
  • Gorgeous 120Hz display
  • Great performance
  • Great battery life
  • Great cameras

whathifi[8]

Reviewers from whathifi have found the following***:
The new iPhone 13 Pro Max does sound better than its predecessor when played out-loud. It sounds better than the standard iPhone 13, too, with a slightly weightier bottom end and smoother treble. Plug in (via the optional adapter) a pair of wired headphones, and there’s no discernible difference between the deliveries of the new and outgoing Pro Max iPhones. The iPhone 12 Pro Max was already one of the most musical phones you could buy. Play Swerve City by Deftones via Apple Music and there's a degree of drive and attack that few can match and that suits the track to a tee.

Pros
  • Gorgeous OLED screen
  • Dolby Atmos / Spatial Audio
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • No headphone jack
  • No wireless charging
