Product Overview

Fujifilm instax mini 40 is an entry-level instant camera in Fuji's instax mini series, sharing with them the same 62x42 instant film size. It offers an interesting entry point to analogue photography without the need to develop one's own films.
The instax mini 40 comes with a Selfie Mode that makes it easy to take close-up shots. Its auto exposure function is able to adapt the exposure by adjusting the shutter speed and flash output levels.
Like other cameras in the instax mini series, the mini 40 adopts a vintage design that mimics medium format cameras of yesteryear, though its price point unsurprisingly necessitates a full plastic construction with a single lens.
Launched with the instax mini 40 is the new CONTACT SHEET film. It features orange text with a black frame for a classy look.

Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The Mini 40 runs on two AA batteries, which typically last for around 100 shots, or ten packs of film. Each print is mechanically ejected via a slot in the top of the camera, and will take upwards of five minutes to fully develop. If you've used an Instax camera before, the Mini 40's blend of dark shadows and pale bright hues will feel very familiar. Don't expect the pinpoint precision you'll get with digital, though: edges are soft and darker parts of a scene often blend together.

The Mini 40 is an entry-level instant film camera with only two settings and two buttons. What sets this camera apart is its vintage film camera look, complete with a plastic faux leather body and metallic-looking plastic rails. The camera's all-plastic housing makes it very light and easy to take anywhere.

The Fujifilm Instax Mini 40 has a retractable 60mm f/12.7 lens. It's activated by pressing the silver button on the lower right-hand side of the lens, and that mechanism also doubles as the camera's on/off switch. The lens has a focal length range of 0.3m to infinity, and a field of view equivalent to a 35mm lens. Selfie mode can be used for close-up photography, too.
