Product Overview

OnePlus Nord is the first model in OnePlus's new Nord series of affordable smartphones. To make a compelling proposition, OnePlus has endowed the Nord with a long list of features that could only be found among the absolute flagships merely a year before.
Powering this glass-clad phone is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G chipset with dual 5G connectivity. This drives a FHD+ OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate with the same specifications found in the OnePlus 8, though its diagonal is marginally smaller due to slightly wider bezels.
Unlike other recent OnePlus models, the Nord features two cameras on the front in a dual-punch-hole design. They are joined by four rear-facing cameras. Together, they push the OnePlus Nord towards the top in the industry in terms of camera count.
At but not least, the Nord is available with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X memory.
With these features, the Nord is not without compromises: OnePlus has given it only WiFi 5, USB 2.0, and UFS2.1 storage, which separate it from the main-line models.

The Snapdragon 765G is the first Qualcomm chip with an integrated 5G modem. This phone runs very well at 90Hz and feels much faster than any 60Hz phone. The camera isn't terrible, but it's disappointing to see OnePlus choose to spread the camera bill of materials thinly with a bunch of cameras.

Under the hood is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G processor, which brings 5G connectivity to the Nord. Navigation around the phone was swift and free of any lag, while demanding games like Asphalt 9: Legends played without any noticeable drop in frame rates. OnePlus promises the phone will get software updates for at least two years, with critical security updates for another year beyond that.

The Nord costs 379 British pounds, or about $480 U.S., if you buy the 8GB/128GB model. Warp Charge 30T goes from zero to 70% in 30 minutes, and then on to full in a little over an hour. The Nord is the best pick if you care most about performance and display quality.

The Nord was introduced with a lot of fanfare, alongside bold promises to usher in a new beginning for the Android midrange niche. The Nord combines a well-balanced specs sheet, with the excellent, class-leading experience of Oxygen OS. The closest you can actually get to the Nord, while getting a quantifiably better experience in many respects is the OnePlus 7T.

The OnePlus Nord comes with the June security patch, and the manufacturer guarantees two years of software updates and three years of security updates. The 4100mAh battery can be recharged to 70% in 30 minutes with the familiar Warp Charge 30T fast charge. On this price range, the battery life is a key argument and it is easy to achieve two days of use on many models.

notebookcheck[8]

Reviewers from notebookcheck have found the following***:
The display's illumination is relatively even, large color areas look homogenous. While the Nord is usable outdoors, direct sunlight highlights the advantages of smartphones with brighter screens. The Nord can become quite hot under full load: Up to 45.8 °C (114.44 °F) is a noticeable and potentially uncomfortably high heat development.

  • Fast Wi-Fi

The Nord runs the same Oxygen OS 10.5 software as the company's other phones. The base model costs just £379, jumping up to £469 for the 12GB/256GB model. There are no plans for a US launch, though other as-yet-unannounced members of the Nord line are expected to arrive there before 2020.

The OnePlus Nord runs Google's Android 10 operating system, overlaid with OxygenOS 10.5. The Nord comes with 5G support, which means you can take advantage of next-generation network speeds when they become available. There's no wireless charging support however – it's another area where some corners had to be cut in order to keep the price down.

Cons
  • No wireless charging
  • No 5G support

There's a lot of camera hardware packed into the OnePlus Nord. The Nord is a really solid midrange phone, but it's not perfect. It's well-specced, with a wide array of cameras and a big high refresh rate display. But in reality, it doesn't get the most out of all this hardware.

Pros
  • Beautiful 90Hz display
  • Wide array of cameras
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Camera performance isn’t great
  • No headphone jack

tomsguide[13]

Reviewer score 82%
Reviewers from tomsguide have found the following***:
There's no wireless charging option on the Nord, a lacking feature it shares with the Google Pixel 3a. The Nord isn't meant to be a flagship phone, but it offers enough of a premium experience that it's as enjoyable to use as a much more expensive device. I'd still recommend this to anyone looking for an Android device — particularly those who take a look at the thousand-dollar prices of flagship Androids.

Pros
  • Beautiful 90Hz display

The Nord has a 48-megapixel f/1.8 OIS-enabled camera. There are also two cameras on the front: a 32MP and 8MP ultra wide. The phone has a 4115mAh cell, which should lead to comfortably day-long endurance for most users. While the battery life isn’t world-beating, the Warp Charge 30T gives a full charge in little over an hour.
