Product Overview

Huawei P40 Pro+ is the flagship of Huawei's late-2020 P-series smartphones. It boasts ceramic casing, five-camera setup with 10X optical zoom, 40W wireless fast charging, and 512GB storage, among other premium features.
Like the P40 Pro, the P40 Pro+ uses Huawei's new Quad-curve Overflow Display that stretches the OLED panel around all four edges. It also shares with the P40 Pro the dual front cameras.
The five-camera setup at the back adds an 8MP SuperZoom unit with 10X optical zoom to the quad-camera setup in the P40 Pro.
Other features of the P40 Pro+ includes an enhanced in-screen fingerprint reader 30% faster compared to the previous model as well as WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. The Kirin 990 5G SoC from the Mate 30 Pro 5G is retained.

Reviewers from digitaltrends have found the following***:
The P40 Pro takes 5x optical zoom and 10x hybrid pictures, so can you see the difference? Yes, you really can. The optical system removes all of the digital processing that creates pixelated details. It's still early days for testing, but based on the photos I've taken so far, it seems the P40pro Plus has improved.

Pros
  • Excellent performance
  • 10x optical zoom
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No Google Mobile Services

notebookcheck[2]

Reviewer score 69%
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found the following***:
The HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G SoC is at the heart of the P40 Pro Plus and is slightly faster than the 4G version. 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and the graphics unit ARM Mali-G76 MP16 accompany the octa-core processor. For a high-end smartphone, the audio experience is somewhat lackluster.

Pros
  • High-quality OLED display
  • Fast SoC
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Weak speaker
  • No aptX codec support

t3[3]

Reviewers from t3 have found the following***:
The Huawei P40 Pro Plus has a top-tier Kirin 990 processor. It also has 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The phone is waterproof and dustproof, and can be submerged for up to 30 minutes. However, the lack of Google apps and services is a major problem.

Pros
  • Super-smooth display
  • Top-tier processor
  • Excellent build quality
Cons
  • No Google Play Store
  • No wireless charging

techadvisor[4]

Reviewers from techadvisor have found the following***:
The P40 Pro+ is a fantastic phone with the best cameras of any phone we've tested. It shoots great-looking 4K video and, with the optical + digital stabilisation and clever sound processing, it delivers smooth footage and decent audio from the subject when you zoom in. Battery life was exactly what I expected. With Huawei's aggressive power-saving measures, such as terminating apps running in the background and turning off the screen after a few seconds, it outlasts most of the competition. It's possible to go two days on a single charge.

Pros
  • Fantastic performance
  • Excellent battery life
  • Great cameras
Cons
  • No Google services
  • No Google Photos or Google Play services

techradar[5]

Reviewer score 76%
Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The Huawei P40 Pro Plus runs Android 10, the latest version of Google's operating system, but without Google services. This is due to restrictions the US government has placed on Huawei amid ongoing security concerns. It's a frustrating scenario, as this is something that has been out of Huawei's control, but it makes this phone less useful to the average person in the West than a device from a rival like Apple, Oppo or Samsung.

Pros
  • Gorgeous display
  • Excellent low-light performance
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No Google services
  • No NFC or 5G support

trustedreviews[6]

Reviewers from trustedreviews have found the following***:
The Huawei P40 Pro Plus runs Android 10, with the brand’s own Emotion UI interface over the top. It isn’t on the same footing as other Android phones though, thanks to the US imposed Huawei Google ban. This means no Play Store, and other limitations when using third-party apps. For anyone less beholden to Google or gaming, the P40 pro Plus's software is excellent. However, you really do need to know what you're getting into before picking one up.

Pros
  • Fantastic camera
  • Great battery life
  • Great performance
Cons
  • No Google Play Store
  • No waterproofing
