The new Intel Iris Plus graphics inside the Envy 13 played Dirt 3 at 39 frames per second. The notebook lasted for just 6 hours and 31 minutes on the Laptop Mag battery test. For $1,099, you get a gorgeous 4K display and one of the best keyboards.

HP addressed almost every shortcoming of the previous Envy 13, a laptop that already had very few faults. The latest model introduces a Thunderbolt 4 port and slims down the display bezels. One area that didn't improve was the touchpad, but the plastic surface doesn't feel as effortless as a glass one.

  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Good battery life
Cons

HP has equipped its 2020 HP Envy 13 with a NVIDIA GeForce MX350 with 2 GB of GDDR5 RAM - a dedicated graphics card. This chip only comes into use during demanding applications, e.g. while gaming. While it offered consistent performance in our benchmark, its read speed can't keep up with that of the competition. HP missed out on an opportunity to further improve their laptop's overall performance.

  • Matte IPS display
  • Good input devices
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Mediocre speakers
  • No Thunderbolt 3

HP refreshes its compact Envy 13 with a Tiger Lake processor and the dedicated GeForce MX450. The input devices are still very decent and the keyboard is also backlit. The battery life has remained constant. Bass is hardly present due to the design, but the sound is otherwise pleasing.

Mark 10, almost all of the Windows laptops are equal. The Razer was quickest, but the general level of performance here is enough that you won't notice slowdown or lag during everyday tasks. The Envy 13's Intel Iris Plus graphics are a step above the traditional integrated-graphics baseline.

The HP Envy 13's keyboard feels solid and comfy, with snappy yet quiet keystrokes, decent travel, and easy discoverability. Sitting just below the bottom-right corner of the keyboard is a Windows Hello-enabled fingerprint reader. On the left side, there's a drop-jaw USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port (the first of two), Thunderbolt 3 port, and audio jack.

The HP Envy 13 comes in at three price points in the UK. The base i5 model retails for £850, the mid-level i7 (the model we tested) costs £1,000, whilst the top-spec i7 with the dedicated GPU clocks in at a price of £1,150. You can currently purchase all three models from the HP UK online store and select models from John Lewis. In the US, you can get the customisable version of the HPEnvy 13 (2020) starting from US$1,049 from the US HP store.

techradar[8]

Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The HP Envy 13 is a strong all rounder for the money. Its metal chassis with sandblasted anodised finish remains appealing. The keyboard bed flexes more than we would like, robbing the laptop of a really premium feel. It's a little tricky to be entirely upbeat about the performance of Intel's 10nm Ice Lake CPUs.

Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Excellent performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3

The HP Envy 13 (2020) features a 13-inch Full HD touchscreen with a relatively unique quirk called BrightView. With most laptop screens hovering around 300 nits, the Envy display is significantly brighter than the competition. The Envy boasts surprisingly fantastic colour coverage scores, scoring 96% for sRGB and over 70% for both Adobe RGB and DCI-P3. The base model, costing just £850, sees an Intel Core i5-1035G1. The review model sent my way is a little more expensive and features a more powerful Intel Corei7-1065G7.

Pros
  • Powerful Intel Core i7-1065G7 CPU
  • Bright display
Cons
  • Loud fans
  • Poor viewing angles
