The new Ford Ranger Raptor takes its attitude from the American F-150 Raptor, and its inspiration from Dakar-style rally specials. Ford Performance has ditched the standard Raptor's leaf springs at the back and fitted the type of suspension you'd find on a Ford Fiesta World Rally car. The Ranger Thunder is the ideal choice for buyers looking for a unique pick-up that offers a bit more style than a Wildtrak but doesn't suffer from the payload compromise.
This rundown provides our analysis on 8 third-party reviews. The sentiment scores, summaries, and key takeaways that we select are based on these reviews and may differ from the original publication.

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following[***]:
The Ford Performance-tuned Ranger Raptor has carved itself a unique place in the market simply because it's like no other pick-up currently on sale. The engineering modifications have turned the already likeable Ranger into a seriously impressive bit of kit – both on and off-road. While surprisingly small, the 2.0-litre diesel engine doesn't detract from the feeling the Raptor is an easy car to fall in love with. It's 44mm wider, 168mm longer, and 52mm taller, while the ground clearance has swollen by 51mm.

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following[***]:
Ford has launched a special-edition Ranger Thunder for buyers who want a truck that offers even more style. The Thunder is based on top-spec Wildtrak trim, so it's packed with kit but gets some unique styling flourishes to help it stand out. Chief among these is the Sea Grey metallic paint, which is complemented by black 18-inch alloy wheels and gloss black plastic trim with red details.

Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following[***]:
The Ford Ranger Raptor is the first true off-road performance pickup to be made available to UK (and European) buyers. Under the bonnet there's a 210bhp four-cylinder diesel engine, rather than a brutal 450hp V6 petrol from the same family as the one in the back of the Ford GT. There are more recovery hooks at the rear – rated to a mere 3,863kg – where you'll also find an integrated tow bar that can haul 2,500kg.

  • Lots of standard equipment
  • Nothing in particular

Reviewers from cnet have found the following[***]:
The Ford Ranger is a midpack offering in a segment of unexceptional products. Capability is one of the Ranger's strong suits, but this is undermined by some unusual choices. The Ranger's 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is smoother than rivals' V6s.

  • Comfortable backseat
  • Lots of driver-assistance tech
  • Nothing in particular
